What is a Cardiac Event Monitor?
A Cardiac Event Monitor is a patient activated recorder (about the size of a pager), that allows YOU to record your own ECG, and transmit it to us over the telephone when you are having symptoms. The Technician will give you special verbal and written instructions at the time of enrollment with this special device. We will enroll you in a 24-hour on-call service.

This device is much smaller to wear, and may be removed to shower or bathe. The monitor has only two lead wires to attach, and is worn clipped to your clothing, pocket, or can be work like a pager. You will be instructed to wear this device as much as possible during your monitoring period. It is often used for tracking symptoms you may be having, and to monitor any changes should you be placed on certain medications. It is quite convenient to be able to monitor your symptoms wherever you are and to possibly avoid unnecessary trips to the Clinic or to the Emergency Room. It’s like taking your car to the mechanic and when you get there...no symptoms can be found. This device allows you to record your irregular heart beats or symptoms as you feel it. You simply press the “record” button and call the service and they will instruct you on how to transmit your ECG. Your physician will be contacted about any ECG changes or symptoms. Remember, this is a very user-friendly device and you will be given complete instructions and 24-hour contact numbers at the time of enrollment.
